1. 表示“語言”，表示某種具體的語言，是可數(shù)名詞;表示抽象意義的語言或指某一方面的語言（術(shù)語），通常為不可數(shù)名詞 。如：
English is a useful language. 英語是一種有用的語言 。（可數(shù)）
How many languages can you speak?你能講幾種語言？
Two : English and French.兩種：英語和法語 。（可數(shù)）
Language is an instrument for communication. 語言是交際的工具 。（不可數(shù)）
I found her lecture quite difficult to follow because she used a lot of technical language.我覺得她的演講很難懂，因?yàn)樗褂昧舜罅康募夹g(shù)用語 。（不可數(shù)）
有時(shí)指“話語”（多指說話方式、交流方式、專業(yè)語言） 。如：
Give your instructions in everyday language.
用通俗的語言發(fā)布指令 。
Watch your language—there are ladies present. 你說話注意點(diǎn)，有女士們在場 。

2.表示“語言”的常見名詞有：English(英語)，Italian （意大利語）Spanish （西班牙語）French(法語)，Chinese(漢語)，German(德語)，Japanese(日語)，Russian(俄語)，Latin (拉丁語)等 。使用這些名詞時(shí)注意以下幾點(diǎn)：
(1) 表示語言的名詞均為不可數(shù)名詞 。如：
誤：He speaks a good English.
正：He speaks good English. 他英語說得好 。
(2) 表示說某種語言，一般用動 speak;表示用某種語言來表達(dá)，一般用介詞 in 。如：
He speaks both English and French. 他能說英語和法語 。
Most students enjoy asking questions in English. 多數(shù)學(xué)生都喜歡用英語提問 。
(3) 在教授某人語言時(shí)其前一般不用物主代詞 。如：
誤：Who teaches your French?
正：Who teaches (you) French? 誰教(你們)法語?
但是，當(dāng)語言名詞表示某人使用語言的水平或能力時(shí)，可在其前用物主代詞 。如：
My English is poor. 我的英語(水平)很差 。
I’m forgetting my French. 我的法語知識在慢慢淡忘 。
(4) 語言名詞前一般不用冠詞，但在以下情況，語言名詞前通常要用冠詞 the：
①表特指意義時(shí)：
the English spoken in America and Canada 在美國和加拿大講的英語
The English in this story has been simplified to make it easier to understand. 這個(gè)故事里的英語被簡寫了，可更容易理解 。
the language of business.

②表示用某一語言怎么說怎么表達(dá)時(shí)：
What’s the English for this? 這個(gè)東西用英語怎么說?
What’s the French for “book”? book 用法語怎么說?
③在語言名詞后加上 language 一詞時(shí)：
He makes every effort to master the Japanese language. 他盡了一切努力來掌握日語 。
Many foreign words have passed into the English language. 有很多外來語已成為英語的一部分 。
