18. whether，if

這兩個詞都作"是否"解，引導賓語從句時，二者可互換 。
如：
People often ask me whether / if I like football.
人們常問我是否喜歡足球 。
但在下列情況中不能用if，只能用whether：
(1)當whether與or not連成一個詞組時 。
如：
I don't know whether or not he would come for our help.
我不知道他是否來幫助我們 。
(2)whether引導的（主語）從句放在句首時 。
如：
Whether this is right or not, I can't say.
這事對與不對，我說不準 。
Whether you will go is none of my business.
你是否要去與我無關(guān) 。
(3)whether + to do sth 復合結(jié)構(gòu)，可以作賓語 。
如：
He hasn't decided whether to go or not.
他沒有決定是否要去 。

19. in hospital，in the hospital

在英國，in hospital是"住院"的意思，hospital具有抽象化的涵義，不指某個具體的醫(yī)院，故前面不用冠詞 。
如：
He is ill in hospital.
他生病住院了 。
in the hospital意為"在醫(yī)院"， 在這里，hospital指一家具體的醫(yī)院 。
例如：
In the hospital, the woman finds her husband.
在醫(yī)院里，那位婦女找到了她的丈夫 。

20. good，well，nice

這三個詞都表示"好"的意思，但它們在詞性和修飾的對象方面有所不同 。
good，"好"，是形容詞用來修飾名詞 。
如：
good news好消息
good points優(yōu)點
a good year好年成
如：
She is a good singer.
她是一個好歌手 。
well, "好、令人滿意地"，是副詞，用來修飾動詞，
如：
well done干得好
live well生活得好
如：
Kate doesn't sing well, but she dances well.
凱特唱不好，但她舞跳得很好 。
表示身體健康要用well不用good, 這時well是形容詞 。
如：
I'm feeling very well today.
我今天感覺身體很好 。
nice，"好的"，"好看的"，是形容詞，用來修飾名詞 。在表示"好"的含義與good不一樣 。
如：
a nice girl一個好看的姑娘
nice weather好天氣
nice 也可以表示"愉快的"， 但在修飾程度上與good不一樣 。
如：
He was very nice to me.
他對我真好 。
